Last year, David Elkus launched the national campaign “Suit- ember” — encouraging men’s suit shops to donate a percentage of their profits to charity during September.

Throughout the month, 10 percent of proceeds at Baron’s Wholesale Clothiers in Farmington Hills and Todd’s Menswear in Royal Oak will be donated to the Friendship Circle or the Henry Ford Health System’s Game on Cancer. Customers are asked to specify which nonprofit they would like their purchase to go toward.

The West Bloomfield based nonprofit Friendship Circle provides services for thousands of clients with special needs and their families by offering recreational, social, educational and vocational programming. The Game On Cancer program helps Henry Ford Health System patients overcome expenses that get in the way of their treatment, such as cab fare or utility bills. The program’s goal is to remove additional stresses so the patient can, instead, focus on getting better.

Todd’s Menswear is located at 520WElevenMile Road, Royal Oak and is open 10 a.m. to 6:30 p.m., seven days a week. Baron’s Wholesale Clothiers is open by appointment only. To make an appointment, call 248- 539- 0525.

Baron’s was founded by David’s father Phil L. Elkus in the 1970s, and Todd’s originally opened in 1933 in Detroit by Phil’s father, Nathan “Toddy” Elkus. After Phil’s retirement, David took on the family business and continued his dad’s tradition of giving.

Phil said in an interview withMy Jewish Detroit, “We’ve made many charitable contributions, but nothing has given us more pleasure than knowing that we’ve made a difference in the lives of so many people in our community.”

Men’s clothing stores can join the Suit-ember campaign by contacting Elkus directly at 248-865-9960. For more information, visit www. suitember.com.
