Lee Gonzales, Edward Toma
Lee Gonzales and Edward Toma have been appointed to the Michigan Liquor Control Commission by Gov. Gretchen Whitmer, according to a press release from the governor’s office.
Gonzales, a Fenton resident, has served with the Michigan Department of Civil Rights since 2012, currently as the deputy director of legislative and external affairs.
He previously served as state representative for Michigan’s 49th district. Before that, he served as assistant treasurer for Genesee County, and had also served as development director for the Genesee County Board of Commissioners.
He has a bachelor of arts degree in urban studies and a master of public administration from the University of Michigan-Flint.
Gonzales is appointed to represent Democrats and succeeds Edward Clemente whose term expired in June.
Toma, a Bloomfield Hills resident, is a state investigator and regulation agent for the Michigan Liquor Control Commission, a position he has held since 2009.
Before joining the commission, he worked in the alcohol retail and restaurant industry.
He has a bachelor of integrative studies in mechanical engineering and biological science from Oakland University.
Toma is appointed to represent Republicans and succeeds Bradford Jacobsen whose term expired in June.
Toma and Gonzales are to serve four-year terms, beginning Oct. 5, subject to Michigan Senate approval.
