The 27-year- old homeless man accused of breaking into Eminem’s Clinton Township house now faces a new charge after he allegedly assaulted a corrections officer in the Macomb County Jail.

Matthew David Hughes punched a corrections officer who was removing a food tray from his cell, according to the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office. Sgt. Renee Yax said the officer was not injured.

Hughes, who is charged with assault of a prison employee, on Wednesday waived his right to a preliminary exam before 41B District Court Judge Jacob Femminineo Jr.

Court records show the alleged assault took place Sept. 11, two days after Hughes was ordered to stand trial on the home invasion and property destruction charges involving Eminem.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Oct. 21 in Macomb County District Court, at which time he will also be arraigned on the home invasion case.

Hughes was expected to be arraigned Wednesday on the home invasion charge, but defense attorney Richard Gland a had a scheduling conflict, court records show.

Earlier this month, a Clinton Township police officer testified that Hughes broke into the rap superstar’s home April 5. He told Eminem - whose real name is Marshall Mathers — that hewas there “to kill him,” Officer Adam Hackstock testified.

Hughes wasn’t armed when he was discovered in Eminem’s home in a gated community. He used a paving stone to break the kitchen door window to enter the rear of the home.

The officer also said Eminem was asleep at the time and thought the intruder was his nephew.

Eminem was able get Hughes to leave the house, where they were met by security guards who held onto the suspect until police arrived.
