Troy, Royal Oak run to pre-regional victories

The 2020MHSAA cross country postseason has gotten underway this week with pre-regional events.

A number of teams around Oakland County have already qualified for next week’s regional events.

Here’s a look at some of the girls results from meets that have taken place.

DIVISION 1

• Troy runs to the title: The Troy girls cross country team won the Division 1 pre-regional at Bloomer Park on Wednesday, scoring a total of 44 points for the crown.

Stoney Creek placed second with 67, while Utica was third with 75 and Eisenhower placed fourth with 91. All four teams advance to next week’s regional round.

Troy sophomore Charlotte Gullion led the Colts by placed second (19:15.1). Senior Paige

Anderson was fourth (19:38.4), sophomore Elaina Rondeau was fifth (19:40.6), junior Aileen Liu was 16th (20:39.8) and sophomore Maisie Konwinski was 17th (20:50.0).

Stoney Creek was led by sophomore Makenna Musser, who placed third (19:29.0). Sophomore Lily Solek was eighth ( 19: 43.0), freshman Alyssa Ko was 10th (20:21.2), freshman Sydney Gergics was 22nd (21:10.2) and freshman Olivia Lombardo was 24th (21:21.8).

Rochester’s Chloe Nixon was medalist for the race, finishing first in a time of 19:10.3.

• Royal Oak dominates: The Royal Oak girls cross country team put on a dominant showing in their D1 pre-regional at Lake St. Clair Metropark on Tuesday.

The Ravens scored a total of 19 points for first place. Grosse Pointe North finished second with 70. Royal Oak had seven of the top-10 finishers on Tuesday.

Senior Nicole Morehouse was medalist for the race. She finished the course in a time of 20:35 to lead Royal Oak. Freshman Cecilia Irwin placed third (21:00.5), sophomore Is

abelle Fairless was fourth (21:01.7), freshman Sarah Barnett was fifth (21:03.9), junior Kate Meinecke was sixth (21:06.0), sophomore Jane Barnett was eighth (21: 38.8), and freshman Anna Schroeder was ninth (21:43.5).

DIVISION 3

• Clawson goes 1-2: Clawson’s Claire Thomson and Abbey Lodato took home the top two positions in the Division 3 pre-regional at Memorial Park on Wednesday.

Both juniors, Thomson won the race with a time of 20:22.1, while Lodato placed second in 20:58.8.

University Liggett won

the race with a team score of 38, while Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest was second with 52. Madison Heights Bishop Foley was third with 57, and Royal Oak Shrine was fourth with 71. All four teams will advance to next week’s regional race.

Freshman Abby Rice led the Crusaders by placing sixth (21:27.6).

Sophomore MacKenzie

Lemke was 11th (22:23.0), freshman Kendall Zaliwski was 12th (22:36.6), senior Olivia Macavage was 15th (23:14.1) and sophomore Emma Burrell was 18th (23:43.5).

Bishop Foley was led by junior Kathryn Podolan, who placed fourth (21:04.2). Freshman Carmellina Biafora was 10th (22:07.4), sophomore Emily Mandziuk was 16th (23:28.2), se

nior Arianna Kerkmaz was 17th (23:40.0) and freshman Julia Serra was 20th (23:50.8).

Shrine was led by junior Claire Plaskey, who placed seventh (21:28.4). Junior Clara Losey was 13th (22:43.2), junior Lindsay Grohs was 14th (22:57.7), senior KatherineM­utschler was 21st (23:58.6) and sophomore Maura Gum was 26th (25:48.7).
