Stoney Creek captures D1 pre-regional

The 2020 MHSAA cross country postseason has gotten underway this week with pre-regional events.

A number of teams around Oakland County have already qualified for next week’s regional events.

Here’s a look at some of the boys results from meets that have taken place.

DIVISION 1

• Stoney Creek rolls on: The Stoney Creek boys cross country team won the Division 1 pre-regional at Bloomer Park on Wednesday, scoring a total of 28 points.

Utica placed second with 44, while Rochester was third with 94 and Troy was fourth with 98. All four teams will advance to next week’s regional.

Senior Tristan Brandenbur­g led the Cougars by placing second in a time of 15:50.8. Senior Kurt Kehren placed third (16:29.6), senior Colin Hanson was fifth (16:44.1), junior Brendan Washburn was eighth (17:21.6) and senior Luke Stemmerich was 10th (17:26.3).

Scoring for Rochester was senior Evan Weglarz in 12th (17:35.4), sophomore Nicholas Teknos in 16th (17:48.5), senior Primo Motyka in 17th (17:49.0), junior Martin DeVaux in 21st (18:10.5), and junior Martin Goleski in 28th (18:23.0).

Troy senior Mike McGowan led the Colts by placing fourth ( 16:43.4). Senior Lucas Van Houten was sixth (17:09.5), freshman Vishvaa Ravishanka­r was 19th (18:07.2), sophomore Theodore Shi was 31st (18:33.0) and sophomore Nicholas Von Eper was 38th (19:12.8).

• Royal Oak advances: The Royal Oak boys cross country team advanced to the Division 1 regionals on Wednesday when they placed second in the pre-regional at Metro Beach Metropark.

The Ravens scored a total of 61 for second while Grosse Pointe South was first with 46. Warren De La Salle placed third with 62.

Leading the Ravens was junior Connor Myatt, who placed seventh ( 16:59.4). Junior Weston Schroeder finished 11th (17:13.1), senior Ruark Wicka was 13th (17:25.2), junior Julio Jaime was 15th (17:27.2) and fresh

man Sebastian Ramirez was 17th (17:32.6).

DIVISION 3

• Foley edges Shrine: Madison Heights Bishop Foley claimed the Division 3 pre-regional title at Memorial Park onWednesda­y.

The Ventures tied Shrine with 36, but won on a sixthrunne­r tiebreaker.

RochesterH­ills Lutheran

Northwest played third with 61 to also advance to next week’s regional.

Foley was led by sophomore Max Mader, who placed 10th (18:00.5).

Junior Zander Munk placed 11th (18:02.6), freshman Sante Valdez was eighth ( 18: 50.0), senior Mark Selasky was 12th (19:03.9), and junior Brendan McGlinchey was 13th

(19:13.3).

Shrine junior Jonah Cerone was medalist on the day with a time of 17:22.5.

Senior Dennis Graveline placed fourth (18:09.7), junior Joseph Bontrager was seventh ( 18:27.8), junior Kevin Wright was ninth (18:52.9) and senior Aidan Laidlaw was 16th (19:34.6).

For Lutheran Northwest, junior Mathew Gunn

was fifth (18:24.3), senior Max Drummelsmi­th was sixth (18:24.8), senior Austin West was 14th (19:19.9), senior Brendan Pehlke was 19th (19:51.3) and sophomore Max Vollmert was 20th (20:18.9).

Clawson sophomore Ryan Lodato placed 10th (19:00.1) on the day as well.

All moved on to the regional meets.
