Spooky books read on new podcast
Ferndale Area District Library’s “A Little Too Quiet” podcast has become “A Little Too Spooky” during the Halloween season.
Throughout the month, the podcast has featured a different local author each week, reading his or her scary story.
The mini-series kicked off on Oct. 13 with Detroit author Kathe Koja, who writes speculative fiction for adults. She read a story from her recently released collection “Velocities.”
On Oct. 20, Tekedra Lofton read from her anthology titled “3 a.m.” By day, Lofton is the community engagement librarian in Taylor; by night, she is an author who goes by the pen name “Ophelia Crane.”
The final episode of the series aired this week, featuring writer and filmmaker James Henry Hall of Clinton Township. He read a new work of short fiction titled “Chapel Hill” about a salesman in the 1950s desperate for some business who wanders into a ghost town.
“A Little Too Quiet” podcast is sponsored by the Friends of the Ferndale Library and is hosted each week by circulation specialist Jeff Milo.
“We’re all likely yearning for some escapism this Halloween season. ... While these pieces aren’t your typical campfire stories — full of cheap scares — they are certainly heavy with atmosphere and are practically melodic with unique voices. These are stories of the strange and what most would deem the supernatural,” said Milo.
