State reports over 3,200 new cases Wednesday

Michigan reported 3,271 new cases of coronaviru­s, as well as 18 COVID-19 deaths, Wednesday, Oct. 28.

This brings the number of Michigan cases to a seven-day average of more than 2,300 cases per day, with an average of 24 deaths over the same time period. The state has seen 42,848 cases in the month of October, with three days left in the month. By comparison, 22,219 total cases were reported in the month of September, with a seven- day average of 867 in the last week of the month.

Since the onset of the pandemic, Michigan has reported 167,545 cases of COVID-19, with 7,257 deaths.

Including 18,389 probable cases, Michigan’s total caseload is 185,934. An additional 349 probable deaths bring Michigan’s total death toll to 7,606.

Multiple Michigan counties saw triple- digit caseload increases Wednesday, as the global caseload exceeded 44 million and the global death toll surpassed 1.17 million. In the United States, 8.8 million COVID-19 cases have been confirmed, with more than 227,000 deaths.

Local trends

Oakland County had the largest increase in the state once again Wednesday, with 417 new cases bringing the county to a total of 20,743.

Wayne county, excluding Detroit, reported an increase of 352 cases, now just short of 22,000 total cases. Detroit saw 45 cases, now at 15,421.

Macomb County reported 272 cases, now at 17,817.

In the western part of Michigan, Kent county reported 361 new cases, the second-highest in increase in the state.

Neighborin­g Ottawa County reported 152 new COVID-19 cases, and Kalamazoo County reported 68 new cases.

In mid- Michigan, Isabella County reported 27 new cases, now at 949.

Gratiot County reported 21 new cases, now at 464, with a single new death bringing thr county total to 17.

Clare County’s seven new cases brought the county total to 252.

Washtenaw County also reported at triple- digit increase, with 101 new cases Wednesday.

The Michigan Department of Correction­s reported 129 new cases.

Ontonagon County, which has not reported a single COVID-19 death since the onset of the pandemic, added two more cases, now at 91.
