President resigns to face war crimes in The Hague
Kosovar President Hashim Thaci resigned Thursday to face war crimes charges in The Hague, becoming the highestprofile target of international efforts to bring justice to victims of the two- decade conflict that led to Kosovo’s independence. A special prosecutor in The Hague announced preliminary indictments against Thaci, including murder charges, in June, just days before he was to attend a White House meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic intended to achieve a breakthrough between their countries. Now the Hague prosecution has taken a step forward. Thaci told reporters that the indictment against him had been confirmed after a review by a pretrial judge inthe special chamber in The Hague.
