State reports over 6K new COVID-19 cases on Saturday

For the second time this November, Michigan reported over 6,000 new daily cases of coronaviru­s on Saturday, according to the state’s website. There were 6,225 new confirmed cases of the virus were quoted, bringing Michigan to 207,794 total cases.

This means November has added nearly 30,000 new cases, averaging over 4,000 new cases per day.

The state also added more than 60 new deaths due to the virus, adding 65 on Saturday, a number unseen since Wednesday, May 27, when Michigan added 68 new deaths.

May also had three other times a high number of new deaths were quoted.

On Tuesday, May 19, Michigan added 102 new deaths, on Thursday, May 21, the state added 69 new deaths and, on Saturday, May 23, the state added 65 new deaths.

High numbers of deaths, such as reported on Saturday, have not been reported since springtime, when the pandemic began.

This brings Michigan to 7,578 total deaths due to COVID-19.

Combined with 21,209 probable cases and 367 probable deaths, these numbers take the state to 229,003 total cases and 7,945 total deaths.

Worldwide, the number of cases reached nearly 50 million with deaths at more than 1.2 million, according to Johns Hopkins University.

In the United States, over 9.7 million cases have been reported with more than 236,000 deaths tied to the disease.
