Police seek booze thief, several bottles of liquor reported stolen from Rite Aid store 2 dead after car crashes in Pontiac’s Terry Lake

Bloomfield Township police are investigat­ing a reported theft of several bottles of liquor from the Rite Aid store at 42931 Woodward Ave., on Nov. 4. According to police, a store employee said a white male, approximat­ely 50 years old, hid the bottles in his jacket and left the store without paying at around 1 p.m. that day. He is further described as having shaggy hair and a gray beard, and was wearing a gray puffy coat with a hood. Anyone with informatio­n about the case is asked to call the Bloomfield Township Police Department at 248- 433-7755.

A car crash into Pontiac’s Terry Lake left two dead Tuesday night. According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, a call came in at 6:49 p.m. reporting a vehicle had been heard accelerati­ng, went airborne and landed in the lake near the 200 block of South Merrimac Street. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Dive Team was called to the scene and recovered a 69-year-old man and 67-yearold woman, both from Pontiac, about 20 feet from shore. They reportedly showed no signs of life at the scene. The two were transporte­d by ambulance to McLaren-Oakland Hospital where they were pronounced dead at 10:26 p.m., the sheriff’s office said. Their names have not yet been released. It’s not yet known what caused the crash, such as a medical emergency suffered by the driver of the vehicle, a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu. Autopsies are scheduled with the Oakland County Medical Examiner.
