Police seek booze thief, several bottles of liquor reported stolen from Rite Aid store 2 dead after car crashes in Pontiac’s Terry Lake
Bloomfield Township police are investigating a reported theft of several bottles of liquor from the Rite Aid store at 42931 Woodward Ave., on Nov. 4. According to police, a store employee said a white male, approximately 50 years old, hid the bottles in his jacket and left the store without paying at around 1 p.m. that day. He is further described as having shaggy hair and a gray beard, and was wearing a gray puffy coat with a hood. A car crash into Pontiac’s Terry Lake left two dead Tuesday night. According to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office, a call came in at 6:49 p.m. reporting a vehicle had been heard accelerating, went airborne and landed in the lake near the 200 block of South Merrimac Street. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Dive Team was called to the scene and recovered a 69-year-old man and 67-yearold woman, both from Pontiac, about 20 feet from shore. They reportedly showed no signs of life at the scene. The two were transported by ambulance to McLaren-Oakland Hospital where they were pronounced dead at 10:26 p.m., the sheriff’s office said. Their names have not yet been released. It’s not yet known what caused the crash, such as a medical emergency suffered by the driver of the vehicle, a 2018 Chevrolet Malibu. Autopsies are scheduled with the Oakland County Medical Examiner.
