The Michigan Department of Natural Resources is looking for volunteers to help remove invasive plants from state parks in Oakland County this month.

From 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Nov. 14, volunteers are needed at the Graham Lake Fen Complex at Bald Mountain Recreation Area in Lake Orion to help cut glossy buckthorn and other invasive shrubs. Waterproof boots are recommended and can be provided upon request, though the number available is limited.

From 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 21, the DNR will be working with volunteers at the Highland Recreation Area in White Lake to cut invasive shrubs such as autumn olive. Volunteers are also needed to help pile brush and stack firewood. A piece of blaze orange clothing is recommended but not required.

Registration is required for both events. Face coverings and social distancing during the outdoor events are encouraged by the DNR. To register, email Kelsey Dillon at DillonK1@michigan.gov.
