Schools to continue remote learning
Waterford School District has announced it will be keeping students on a remote learning schedule until after Thanksgiving.
The move comes alongside a rise of confirmed and probable cases of coronavirus in the district, according to Scott Lindberg, superintendent. A total of 30 positive cases in staff and students have been identified since Oct. 30. Twelve cases have been confirmed in this district this week alone.
“In most scenarios, each positive case leads to several individuals having to quarantine. At this time, we have over 500 staff and students in quarantine due to exposure,” Lindberg said. “In addition to an increase in district cases, we have seen a significant increase in individuals that must quarantine due to exposure outside of school.
All of this continues to put a strain on our ability to return to in-person instruction safely.”
Last week Haviland Elementary and Grayson Elementary were reverted back to virtual learning.
The new date for students to return to the classroom is now Nov. 30, instead of early next week.
A Waterford School Board of Education meeting is scheduled for Nov. 19. The district’s return to learn plan is expected to be discussed in more detail at that time, including recommendations for next steps.
