For the second day in a row, Michigan exceeded 7,000 new confirmed cases of coronavirus on Saturday, according to the state’s website. The 7,072 new cases reported on Saturday marked the second-highest single- day increase reported since the start of the pandemic, with the highest being on Friday with 8,516 new cases.

Over 44,000 of November’s nearly 74,000 total new cases were added this week, a total which is already nearly 21,000 more cases than seen in October.

October’s case totals were also previously the highest seen since springtime; however.

There were 65 deaths due to the virus also reported on Saturday, the same number as reported last Saturday, bringing the state to 251,813 cases and 7,994 deaths, meaning Michigan will soon cross the 8,000 mark for deaths.

In total, when combined with the state’s 23,979 probable cases and 382 probable deaths, this means there are now 275,792 cases and 8,376 deaths in Michigan.

Saturday’s increase in new deaths added due to the virus continues November’s high death counts, the largest of which was on Friday, with 118 deaths.

Other instances in November included 84 new deaths reported on Tuesday, 65 deaths on Saturday, 62 deaths on Monday and 51 deaths added last Thursday.

High single- day death counts like this have been unseen since May.

At least 36 of the 65 new confirmed deaths on Saturday were identified during a vital records review, which are conducted regularly by the state.
