A Detroit woman faces felony assault and vandalism charges in Ferndale after police say she slashed three tires on her girlfriend’s car outside a Taco Bell and chased her with a narrow 3- foot long piece of wood with a nail sticking out of it.

“A bystander called us and told us a woman was attacking another woman on Pinecrest,” said Ferndale Detective Brendan Moore of the incident.

The suspect, Shanicka Mayfield, 27, was in Ferndale 43rd District Court on Monday for a hearing.

Police said the incident happened about 11:30 p.m. Nov. 8 at the Taco Bell at Nine Mile and Pinecrest roads.

The piece of wood the suspect used appeared to be a spindle for a porch railing that had a single nail set in the end of it to resemble a weapon, police said.

Moore said the suspect confronted her girlfriend at the Taco Bell while she was working because she believed her girlfriend had possibly been contacting other women on social media.

The girlfriend told the suspect she couldn’t talk about their relationship while she was at work, but eventually came outside to meet the suspect, police said.

While the suspect was there she also broke out a tail light on the victim’s car, Moore said.

When the other woman came outside the suspect brandished the wood spindle and chased her down Pinecrest, he added.

Police arrived, located the two women and arrested the suspect, who was wanted on an outstanding warrant for domestic abuse.

The felony assault charge against Mayfield is punishable by up to four years in prison. The malicious destruction of property under $1,000 charge is a misdemeanor.

She is free on personal bond, and is prohibited from having any contact with the woman she is accused of assaulting or purchasing a firearm or other dangerous weapon.

Mayfield is scheduled for a preliminary examination in Ferndale District Court at 2:30 p. m. Dec. 3.
