High school marching band named Midwest champions for horror medley
The Walled Lake Central marching band was crowned U.S. Bands Virtual Midwest Region Champions and named the runner up in division 4 of the U.S. Bands Virtual National Championship.
The band is comprised of 140 students and is led by Director of Bands Dave Rogers, who has helped shape thousands of musicians during his 25-year career.
“I will forever be grateful to the people who helped pull this season off including my amazing instructional team, but most importantly to the students, in particular my amazing senior class, who ensured that the Walled Lake Central Marching Band’s tradition of excellence continued,” said Rogers.
Walled Lake Central’s musical selections were in tribute to several classic horror stories and included “Tubular Bells Part I” by Michael Gordon Oldfield, “Theme from Psycho” by Bernard Herrmann, “Symphonie
Fantastique Mvt. 5 - Dream of a Witches’ Sabbath” by Hector Berlioz, “Pan’s Labyrinth Lullaby” by Javier Navarrete, and “Medea’s Dance of Vengeance” by Samuel Barber. Their production was titled “Behind
Closed Doors” and took its inspiration from the Alfred Hitchcock quote, “There is nothing more scary than a closed door.”
Rogers said, “I am immensely proud of our students, teaching staff, the
band parents, our alumni, and our school administration who supported us so well. This season was all about heart.”
