Trial scheduled for accused killer of Southfield mom

Jury selection is set to begin Feb. 22, 2021 in the case against a Westland man charged in the murder of his girlfriend in Southfield. Adrian DeShawn Hill, 32, faces charges of first- degree premeditat­ed murder and firearms-related offenses in the slaying of Markia Leggett, 29, of Southfield.

Leggett, a mother of two, was shot multiple times at her home March 22 in the Pine Aire Apartments on West 12 Mile Road. Her 13-year- old child, who was outside with his sibling when the shooting happened, reported it to police.Hill was arrested four days later in Detroit, with Southfield police assisted on the case by the Detroit Fugitive Apprehensi­on Team and the Violent Crimes Task Force.

The trial will be held before Judge Cheryl Matthews of Oakland County Circuit Court. Hill is in the Oakland County Jail, denied bond. His criminal history dates back to 2004 and includes conviction­s for theft, burglary, malicious destructio­n of property and weapons offenses.
