Police: Burglar found hiding in home flees, later caught
Charges are filed against a Detroit man for allegedly breaking into a Bloomfield Township home and fighting with the homeowners before fleeing on Nov. 21.
Bobby Lewis Foster, Jr., 24, was arrested about four after the incident after being spotted walking along the roadway not far from the reported break-in. He’s charged with first-degree home invasion, a felony, as well as aggravated assault and assault and battery, both misdemeanors.
B l o omfield Township police said it was approximately 12:00 a.m. on Nov. 21 when officers responded to a reported in-progress home invasion in the 800 block of Helston Court. The homeowner said his dog’s barking woke him up, and he found a window and door open.
Moments later, his wife discovered a man, later identified as Foster, hiding in their house. As the homeowner was on the 9-1-1 call, Foster reportedly began fighting with the homeowner and his wife, then broke free and ran from the home through the garage. During the scuffle, he dropped his cell phone and key FOB, police said.
Police began searching the area within minutes, using three police dogs and the department’s drone to try to locate the burglar through a description provided by the homeowner. At around 4 a.m., police responded to a report about a person walking in the area of Manderford Road, and officers confirmed he matched the description of the burglar provided by the homeowner. He was then taken into custody.
Foster’s vehicle was located in a driveway a short distance from the break-in, police said.
At arraignment Monday in 48th District Court, Foster’s bond was set at $50,000. He’s being held in the Oakland County Jail.
Foster is due back in court on Dec. 3.
