Berkley Public Library hosts virtual events throughout December

Want to learn new things and make new friends, all while staying at home?

Berkley Public Library is hosting several virtual events in December to give community members something to do other than binge watch TV.

The following programs will take place via Zoom. Registrati­on is required at berkleylib.evanced.info/signup/calendar.

• An Introducti­on to Mindfulnes­s Meditation, 6: 30 p. m. Wednesday, Dec. 2 — Most adults are easily distracted because they are consumed with worry about past or future events. This event will teach attendees how to live in the present. It begins with a short introducti­on followed by a 30-minute guided, sitting meditation, and will close with a Q& A session.

• Choose Local Meats, 7 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 3 – During this program, attendees will hear from The Cultured Cook Lisa Howard, who will talk about the difference­s between animals raised on pasture and animals raised in Confined Animal Feeding Operations and why it’s worth choosing the former.

• Adult Book Club, 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 8 and 7 p.m. Monday, Dec. 14 – “Silent Patient” by Alex Michaelide­s will be discussed on Dec. 8, and “The Call of the Wild” by will be discussed on Dec. 14. These titles are available for curbside pickup or Berkley delivery.

• Sticky Fingers Cooking, 6: 30 p. m. Wednesday, Dec. 9 – Families are invited to learn to make shortbread with sprinkles. Participan­ts will receive the recipe in advance and will need to provide their own ingredient­s. Each family should register as just one person if all members are joining via the same computer.

Santa Claus will also be visiting Berkley Public Library, located at 3155 Coolidge Highway. Children are invited to stop by the library between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 6. There, they can write and decorate a letter to Santa and mail it in a special mailbox. No registrati­on is required. Make sure to wear a face mask and practice social distancing.
