Lt. Gov. Gilchrist to speak at virtual event recognizing local youth
The Urban League of Detroit and Southeastern Michigan will hold its 55th Annual Guild Gala Luncheon on Saturday, Dec. 5.
Michigan Lt. Gov. Garlin Gilchrist II will be the keynote speaker at this year’s gala. The event will be held virtually beginning at 12: 30 p. m. Individuals or interested companies can v i sit www. deturbanleague. org/guild- gala to purchase tickets and learn more about sponsorship opportunities.
At the event, more than 100 area youth will receive the “Do the Right Thing” recognition. The League will also present the Community Service Award to Anthony White, artistic director for the Detroit Youth Concert Choir and Performing Arts Company.
White was selected for empowering the youth of Detroit through music and performance, most no
tably leading the Detroit Youth Choir to the finale of “America’s Got Talent.”
Tickets start at $50 for
adults and $25 for youth. Admission includes the Virtual Guild Gala Experience, a virtual gift bag,
membership to the Urban League of Detroit, and registration to the College Club for youth.
Proceeds directly support the Urban League’s education and workplace development programs. One such program is the College Club- Project Ready program, which increases educational opportunities for youth pursuing post- secondary degrees. The League’s Workforce Career Development program provides essential job search resources and support that are especially needed to assist the countless individuals who have been displaced by the pandemic.
