Total cases top 350,000, deaths tally tops 9,100

Total U.S. infections approach 13 million

Cases of COVID-19 in Michigan reached 352,433 this week, including the probable ones, generally suspected because of symptoms but not confirmed because a test was unavailabl­e.

On Wednesday, the state added 4,273 cases to the tally.

On Thursday, due to the Thanksgivi­ng holiday, no new update was given, so Friday afternoon’s report will be for two days.

Counting the probable cases, Michigan has seen 9,170 deaths, the state Department of Health and Human Services has reported. On Wednesday, 73 deaths were reported.

In terms of confirmed cases, Michigan has seen 324, 779 cases and 8,761 deaths.

On Thursday af ternoon, the worldwide caseload approached 60.8 million cases with nearly 1.43 million dead, according to Johns Hopkins University data. In the U.S., more that 12.8 million having been infected and almost 263,000 killed. Florida, third in total cases, was nearly 1 million cases, about to join California and Texas over that mark.

Michigan ranked ninth in the nation, between Ohio and Tennessee in total cases.

With the Wednesday up

date, the seven-day average dropped to 6,710, the third straight day of a decline after hitting an all-time high of 7,270 on Saturday and Sunday.

In November, cases confirmed numbered 146,599. an average of 5,864 per day.

The prior four days of testing has seen a daily positivity rate of about 13 percent.

Local trends

In the Detroit area on Wednesday, Oakland

County had the most cases in the area with 488 new cases, making 37,323 total cases in the county.

Wayne County, excluding Detroit, followed with 425 new cases, creating 36,277 total cases in the county.

Macomb County was next with 410 new cases, meaning there were 32,382 total cases.

And, the city of Detroit was last in the Metro area with 172 new cases, quoting 19,263 total cases.

In the rest of the state, Kent County had 362 new cases, 28,960 cases total in the county.

Other areas in Michigan reporting more than 100 cases were:

• Ottawa County, with 190 new cases, making 12,085

• Genesee County, with 127 new cases, making 11,816

• Kalamazoo County, with 113 new cases, making 7,545

• Ingham County, with 111 new cases, making 8,117

And, in Mid-Michigan, there were 52 new cases in Isabella County, making 2,049 total cases in the county.

In Gratiot County, there were 35 new cases, making 1,343, and, in Clare County, with 27 new cases, for a total of 618.
