Driver stopped for speeding faces third drunken driving charge, cocaine possession

-

Police stopped a man for speeding near 12 Mile and Woodward and ended up arresting him for his third drunken driving offense, and possession of cocaine.

The man, 42, of Pontiac had an open bottle of liquor in the car and police said they saw and confiscated a small plastic baggie containing suspected cocaine.

Police said Monday the man won’t be charged in Royal Oak until tests are completed on the suspected cocaine.

The incident happened about 11:30 p.m. Nov. 21.

Police said the driver was also wanted on two warrants, one for failing to appear for an earlier drunken driving court hearing and the other for filing a false felony report with the Oakland County Sheriff’s department.

Police were called to the store about 6:30 p.m. Nov. 22.

One of the men, in his 60s, asked a clerk for help finding an over-the-counter medicinal product to create a distraction, police said, while the second man went behind a check- out counter and stole cartons of cigarettes.

The pair drove away in a gray Chrysler 200 and were last seen driving east on Gardenia.
