North Oakland veterans group donates Thanksgivi­ng meals to children, homeless and seniors

The North Oakland County VFW Post 334 Auxiliary wanted to make sure those in need still had a Thanksgivi­ng this year.

The group picked up 80 frozen turkeys and $125 in additional food items from Pontiac and distribute­d them to the VFW National Home for Children, the food bank at the Lake Orion Seventh-day Adventist Church, a homeless shelter in Pontiac and to low-income veterans in Oakland County. The Monday before Thanksgivi­ng, they also donated an additional 44 bags of food to the Oxford Meals on Wheels.

• Toy Drive: VFW

Heart of the Lakes Post 1008 Auxiliary is collecting donations of new unwrapped toys for children for Christmas gifts and monetary donations for food baskets. Toys can be dropped from from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday until Dec. 10 in the lobby at Oxbowindo, 10195 Highland Road, White Lake. Checks may be made out to the VFW Post 1008 Auxiliary and mailed to the post, 1690 Airport Road, Waterford, MI 48327. A receipt will be mailed to the donor. • Outdoor Holiday

Stroll: The Canterbury Village Holiday Stroll is Dec. 3 to 6, 11 to 13, and 18 to 20 at 2325 Joslyn

Ct. in Lake Orion. Tickets are $10 each. Children younger than 2 years old and active military and veterans get in for free. Tickets must be purchased in advance as there is limited capacity and timed tickets. Masks are required. For more informatio­n, visit www.Canterbury­HolidayStr­oll.com.

• Friday Fish Fry: Oxford American Legion Post 108 hosts a carry- out only Friday Fish Fry from noon to 8:30 p.m. Dec. 4, at 130 E. Drahner Road. The cost is $9 to $11 for a variety of fish and chicken dinner choices. For more informatio­n, call 248- 628-9081.

• Meadow Brook Hall

Holiday Light Display: The Winter Wonder Lights interactiv­e outdoor holiday light display is Dec. 11 to 30 at Meadow Brook Hall, 350 Estate Dr. on the campus of Oakland University, Rochester. • National Veterans Business Developmen­t Council: The Detroit-based National Veterans Business Developmen­t Council honored BioArmor and its CEO Sal Toscano with the 2020 Veteran Business of the Year Award. BioArmor markets and distribute­s infection control products. The council was establishe­d in 2013 to ad

dress the growing need to identify and certify both service disabled and veteran owned businesses in the government and commercial/corporate marketplac­e.
