A 45-year- old Brighton man was killed in a Wednesday morning crash in Farmington Hills, the state police report.

Troopers were sent at about 5:30 a.m. to the eastbound side of I- 696 near M- 5 for a single-vehicle crash, finding a vehicle that had struck a bridge abutment.

“Currently the freeway is shut down at I- 696 and M5 in Farmington Hills,” the Michigan State Police tweeted at 7:30 a.m. Wednesday. Shortly after 8 a.m., the freeway was reopened.

The man was the only person in the vehicle, and no other vehicles were involved in the crash. The investigation has started and the state police were to notify family about the death.

The Michigan Department of Transportation reported via Twitter that all lanes of I- 696 had been closed.
