Kids First Initiative delivers gifts by drone to families in need
This week, the Auburn Hillsbased nonprofit Kids First Initiative is using drones to help deliver presents to families in need this Christmas.
Twenty families were identified as the most in need and will receive gift cards delivered by drone. Another 25 families who don’t have transportation will have a holiday meal basket delivered to their homes.
The organization will also prepare traditional holiday meal baskets for 100 families to pick up on Dec. 16, and 100 meals in a bag will be given to children who are homeless.
The organization began delivering the stockings filled with gift cards on Monday and will continue through Friday, Dec. 11.

For more than 10 years, Kids First Initiative has been providing services to thousands of children and their families in not only the United States but also in Canada and Haiti. Some of their services, in addition to the annual holiday meal gift basket distribution, include cold weather gear distribution, employment opportunities for high school students, and STEAM workshops for grade school students.
