Local seniors and children connect during COVID-19 through virtual reading program

- — Submitted by Lauren Eastman

The residents of Sunrise Senior Living in Troy and Rochester are working to bridge the generation gap.

Recently, both communities collaborated with their local Kiddie Klub Daycare chapter to create a virtual reading program – connecting seniors and children during COVID-19. The weekly reading program takes place every Tuesday morning and afternoon for an hour each.

The first virtual reading circle featured Sunrise residents Agnes Weise and Maria Brown, who were well loved by the children. The kids even picked a few books for them to read – like “The Very Hungry Caterpillar” by Eric Carle and “Corduroy” by Don Freeman.

Sunrise of Troy is located at 6870 Crooks Road, and Sunrise of Rochester is located at 500 East University Drive. For more information, visit www.sunriseseniorliving.com.
