A 19-year-old Pontiac man who was out on bond for gun charges and a controlled substance case is facing more charges after allegedly fleeing from authorities during a traffic stop and having a loaded handgun in his vehicle.

Deputies from the sheriff’s Directed Patrol Unit were conducting surveillance after getting a tip that a known felon with a handgun had gotten into a car near Walton Boulevard and Colony Lane, and then drove away. Deputies spotted the vehicle and attempted to pull it over, but the driver continued down a dead end street, abandoned the car while it was in motion and fled on foot, the sheriff’s office said. The car continued moving before crashing into an iron fence, the sheriff’s office said.

The man was taken into custody following a pursuit on foot. He was lodged at the Oakland County Jail pending the issuance of charges. Possible offenses include carrying a concealed weapon, resisting and fleeing a police officer, and driving on a suspended license, the sheriff’s office said.

A fully-loaded .40 caliber Glock was found on the driver’s side floorboard of the car, the sheriff’s office said.
