Police chief elected 2021 president of two police organizati­ons

Alan Maciag, Northville police chief, has been elected president of the Wayne County Associatio­n of Chiefs of Police and the Southeaste­rn Michigan Associatio­n of Chiefs of Police for 2021.

Since becoming the city’s police chief in 2018, Maciag has has implemente­d body worn cameras and is currently ramping up crisis interventi­on training for officers to effectivel­y respond to individual­s who have a mental health disorder or addiction.

In 2020, he served as first vice president of the Southeaste­rn Michigan Associatio­n Chiefs of Police. He will be sworn in as the associatio­n’s president on Jan. 21, for his one-year term.

Last year, he also served as vice president of the Wayne County Associatio­n of Chiefs of Police, Maciag was vice president in 2020. His one-year term as president began Nov. 17.

Prior to coming to Northville, Maciag served 23 years at the Wayne Police Department, including the final four years as chief.

Northville, one of the more affluent communitie­s in southeast Michigan, has 6,000 residents with a median household income of around $111,000.
