City names new fire chief
Richard “Chuck” Riesterer has been named as the new fire chief for the city of Troy. Riesterer will succeed Fire Chief Dave Roberts who is set to retire on Feb. 5 after 42 years of service to the Troy community, according to a press release from the city of Troy.
“Assistant Chief Chuck Riesterer has served the City of Troy for many years as volunteer firefighter and career fire staff with professional backgrounds in fire prevention,” Mark Miller, city manager said.
“His service and commitment to our community has been exemplary and he will continue to carry on Troy’s tradition of excellence.”
Before joining the Troy Fire Department in 1989, Riesterer worked with the Roseville and Livonia Fire Departments. He started at Troy as a fire education specialist, providing training for new members, and he also served as a volunteer firefighter. In 1999, Riesterer was transferred to the Fire Prevention Section where he conducted inspections for all occupancy types, and in 2005, he began providing hazardous materials compliance inspections for businesses.
Riesterer has held positions of firefighter, lieutenant and station assistant chief at Troy Fire Department Station 3. He was promoted to assistant fire chief/fire marshal in 2015.
Riesterer is a graduate of the National Fire Academy and has a Certificate in fire fighting technology from Oakland Community College. He is a certified Fire Fighter I/ II and a certified Hazardous Materials Responder-Awareness & Operations Level.
