- — Aileen Wingblad, MediaNews Group

A man charged with murdering his stepfather and injuring his mother over a fight about his video game playing is scheduled to return to court next week.

Christopher Winfield McKinney, 29, faces charges of open murder, assault with intent to murder and two counts of assaulting an officer for the Dec. 11 incident at his parents’ home in Madison Heights.

Killed was Raymond Mancini, 71, who died four days after McKinney allegedly stabbed him. According to police, a fight broke out between McKinney, his mother and Mancini after they told him to leave their bedroom where he was playing video games, so they could go to sleep. After McKinney struck them both, Mancini tried to use a knife to defend himself. McKinney got hold of the knife and stabbed the parents, police said.

McKinney’s mother has since recovered from her injuries, police said. A pre-exam conference in Madison Heights’ 43rd District Court is set for Jan. 20 before Judge Keith Hunt. McKinney is held in the Oakland County Jail on a $760,000 bond.
