Nearly 1,500 cases cited as new case totals decline

Total reaches 552,556 cases, 14,405 deaths

Nearly 1,500 new cases were reported in Michigan on Tuesday as the number of new daily cases declined, according to the state’s website.

There were 1,476 new cases and 79 new deaths due to the virus in the state, meaning Michigan, in total, has 552,556 cases and 14,405 deaths.

This number of new cases reported in a single day is reminiscen­t of the number of new cases seen daily in mid-to-late October. It also is the fourth day of less than 2,000 new cases reported.

At least 44 of the 79 new confirmed deaths on Tuesday were identified during a vital records review, which are conducted regularly by the state.

These counts exclude probable cases and deaths linked to

COVID-19 and include only confirmed cases and deaths.

Health officials have also been tracking results of statewide testing. So far, 9,269,199 diagnostic tests have been conducted.

As of last Friday, a total of 463,106 Michigande­rs have recovered from COVID-19 (30 days out from onset of illness), a total which is updated by the state every Saturday.

According to Johns Hopkins University, worldwide on Tuesday, the number of global cases reached the milestone of over 100 million with deaths at over 2.1 million.

In the United States, over 25.3 million cases have been reported with more than 423,000 deaths tied to the disease.

Michigan ranks as the eighth state in the U.S. with the most total number of deaths, with New York as first.

The state is also 14th in the the nation in cases, Johns Hopkins says, with California as first.

Wayne County had the most new cases in the Detroit area on Tuesday with 207 new cases and nine new deaths, putting the county, in total, at 60,996 cases and 1,955 deaths.

Oakland County was next with 202 new cases and seven new deaths, cumulative­ly making 60,977 new cases and 1,776 new deaths.

Macomb County followed with 155 new cases and nine new deaths, totaling 52,422 cases and 1,733 deaths in the county.

And, in the city of Detroit itself, there were, in total, 28,353 cases and 1,786 deaths, after 70 new cases and five new deaths were reported.

In mid-Michigan, in Isabella County, there were five new cases and no new deaths reporteded, making 3,401 cases and keeping the county at 66 deaths, total.

Gratiot County had 6 new cases and no new deaths, increasing the number of cases to 2,383 and keeping the number of deaths at 91.

In Clare County, 4 new cases and no new deaths were reported, meaning there were 1,294 total cases, with the number of total deaths staying at 66.

The Michigan Department of Correction­s (MDOC) cited no new cases and two new deaths, keeping it at 22,802 total cases and increasing total deaths to 138.

Kent County also had, cumulative­ly, 46,006 cases and 589 deaths, after it reported 148 new cases and three new deaths.
