Accent Pontiac awarded $55,000 grant to support music education for children

The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan has partnered with CultureSou­rce to provide $275,000 in grant funding to metro Detroit arts and culture organizati­ons.

A total of five nonprofits were awarded including one in Oakland County. Accent Pontiac, a music education nonprofit for Pontiac school aged children, will receive $55,000 from the COVID-19 Arts and Creative Community Assistance Fund.

The funds will be used to institute a new Porch Lessons program, which will provide outdoor and socially-distanced music lessons at student’s homes.

CultureSou­rce and provide support to help arts and culture organizati­ons innovate and shift their business models to address needs in their communitie­s.”

The other nonprofit organizati­ons chosen for the grant are: The Michigan Opera Theatre, the Detroit

Historical Society, Heritage Works and Young Nation, all focusing on the Detroit area.

“These arts projects represent creativity and ingenuity in serving communitie­s,” Omari Rush, executive director of CultureSou­rce, said. “We can

all be proud that organizati­ons like these awardees exist throughout southeast Michigan and are undeterred in helping keep our region vibrant and prosperous.”

The Arts and Creative Community Assistance Fund is supported by the

Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation, the DeRoy Testamenta­ry Foundation, the Ford Foundation, The Kresge Foundation, the Leinweber Foundation, the Max M. and Marjorie S. Fisher Foundation, the Peck Foundation, and the William Davidson Foundation.
