Drugs suspected factor in fatal shooting
Suspect to be arraigned today
A Clawson man is in custody after police say he fatally shot another man at his house.
Clawson Police Chief Scott Sarvello said officers discovered the body of the victim, 35, of Warren, on a bedroom floor at the suspect’s house.
“We have no reason or motive for what happened,” Sarvello said. “It appears that drugs may have been a factor.”
The slain man is reportedly a friend of the suspect.
The suspect was scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday on charges in Troy 52-4 District Court, but the court hearing was delayed until Wednesday.
Clawson police learned of the fatal shooting after they were called early Sunday to a house on Nakota, the same street where the suspect lives, on a separate incident.
About four people were inside the house when the suspect entered the home uninvited, police said.
The suspect “went into the house and they didn’t recognize him as anyone they knew,” Sarvello said. “He assaulted a 38-year-old Clawson woman with a bottle, striking her in the face.”
Police said the woman suffered some facial injuries in the assault.
Another person at the house called police about 12:30 a.m. Sunday to report the attack.
“When officers arrived (the suspect) was walking down the street,” Sarvello said. “He was arrested for assault.”
But police said they investigated further after arresting the suspect.
“He started making comments to officers that led them to check his house on Nakota,” Sarvello said.
The police chief would not expand on details the investigation turned up, or name either the suspect or homicide victim.
“We recovered a handgun from the house” where the body was found,” Sarvello said.
The Oakland County Medical Examiner’s office is expected to complete an autopsy sometime Monday afternoon, according to an investigator there.
Police plan to present their investigation to Oakland County prosecutors on Tuesday requesting charges against the suspect.
Clawson police called on a multi-jurisdictional law enforcement unit, the Major Crime Assistance Team to help them with the homicide investigation after officers discovered the Warren man’s body.
