‘DREAM BIG AND TAKE RISKS’
Retired elementary school principal recognized by statewide association
Michelle Fiebke-Lang, former principal of Mary Helen Guest Elementary School in Walled Lake, was named the Region 7 Principal of the Year by the Michigan Elementary and Middle School Principals Association.
Superintendent Ken Gutman said, “Michelle is a superstar and is a very special person. It’s nice to see her recognized at such a high level.”
Fiebke-Lang was nominated by colleague Dr. Marci Augenstein, Keith Elementary principal. She was selected for creating a positive school culture, addressing social/emotional learning and launching the district’s first therapy dog program.
“Over her 30-year career as a teacher, principal, change agent, colleague and friend, the impact Michelle has had on children and staff is immeasurable.
She cares deeply, shares her passion, gives unconditionally and respects and listens to everyone,” said Augenstein.
Fiebke-Lang retired from the Walled Lake Consolidated School District in October 2020 after a nearly 32-year career with the district. She has since returned to help support students and families with online learning as the “Our Path” coordinator.
“I would like to thank my family, my husband, children and parents.
Without their encouragement and unwavering support, I would not have had so many opportunities to fulfill my passion as an educator,” said Fiebke-Lang.
“I want everyone to embrace the following: Dream big and take risks, always assume positive intent, be a servant leader by not asking others to do anything you would not do yourself, face fear and speak up for what is right, and always celebrate each other. I am thankful and forever humble.”
