New Michigan coronavirus cases and deaths dipped lower again as more people get vaccinated against the deadly virus and continue to wear masks and social distance from each other.

The state health department reported 775 new daily cases and 19 deaths Tuesday, bring the total in Michigan to 576,264 cases and 15,177 deaths since counting began last March after the beginning of the pandemic.

As of Sunday, health providers had administered 1,634,609 shots of the vaccine statewide, including 220,740 in Oakland County, 166,499 in Wayne County, 123,316 in Macomb County, and 47,312 in Detroit.

The state’s goal has been to vaccinate 70% of the population age 16 and older at a rate of 50,000 shots per day.

The slowly increasing number of vaccinations against the virus is reflected in the declining number of new cases and deaths reported daily.

In Tuesday’s update, there were 64 cases and one death in Oakland County, 36 cases and two deaths in Macomb County, 83 cases and no deaths in Wayne County, and 39 cases and one death in Detroit.

In other areas of Michigan, there were 19 cases and two deaths in Genesee County, 69 cases and no deaths in Kent County, six cases and three deaths in Saginaw County, and 29 cases and one death in Washtenaw County.

In mid-Michigan there were no deaths among the three cases in Clare County, one case in Gratiot County, and six cases in Isabella County.

Eighteen of Michigan’s 83 counties reported no cases and deaths from the virus.

The slowly increasing number of vaccinations against the virus is reflected in the declining number of new cases and deaths reported daily.
