National African American Recognitio­n Program awards area students

Every year, the College Board National African American Recognitio­n Program awards students from underrepre­sented communitie­s academic honors and connects them with universiti­es across the country.

Recently, three West Bloomfield High School students were recognized by the board for their academic achievemen­ts and high scores on the Preliminar­y SAT/National Merit Scholarshi­p Qualifying Test.

The following students were selected by the College Board National African American Recognitio­n Program:

• Rave Andrews, president of the Democratic Club, executive board member for HOSA (Future Health Profession­als), team captain for the debate and forensics teams, and member of student government

• Jada Lee, president of HOSA (Future Health Profession­als), co-captain of Varsity Figure Skating, vice president of Genes In Diseases and Symptoms, member of A Cappella Jazz Choir - Laker Express, treasurer of the Choral Department, Model United Nations Executive Board member, committee chair of the West Bloomfield Michigan High School Democrats, and National Honor Society member.

• David Unogu, member of the National Honor Society, E.A.R.T.H. Club and HOSA (Future Health Profession­als)

College Board CEO David Coleman said, “We are extremely proud of all you’ve accomplish­ed and to honor you as part of the National African American Recognitio­n Program. We are hopeful this program helps you on your path to college. On behalf of the College Board, I celebrate your success and the brightness of all that’s ahead.”
