The man charged in the murder of a Southfield resident outside his home is scheduled to return to court April 9 for a preliminary exam, where it will be determined if the case advances.

Tyron MiguelTurner, 25, faces charges of felony murder, carjacking and two counts of felony firearms in the Dec. 27, 2020 incident which took the life of Fredric Hudson, 48. The preliminary exam will be held before Judge Shelia Johnson of 46th District Court in Southfield who will be presented evidence and decide if the case gets bound over to Oakland County Circuit Court.

According to Southfield Police Chief Elvin Barren, home surveillance video from the night of the shooting shows Hudson pulling into his driveway in the 26000 block of Primary Street where he stayed in his car for a few moments as a vehicle occupied by at least three people drove up. It’s alleged that Turner approached Hudson’s vehicle, armed with a handgun, and the two fired at each other. The person alleged to be Turner fell on the ground after being shot but continued firing his gun as the others fled in their vehicle, Barren said.

Police say Turner is then seen removing Hudson from his car and driving away in it. It’s believed Hudson was an intended target rather than the incident being random.

Turner showed up at an area hospital 22 minutes after the shooting, with gunshot wounds to the neck and chest. He spent several days hospitalized, in police custody, but has since been transferred to the Oakland County Jail.

Hudson left behind a wife and children. A GoFundMe account is set up to help the family with funeral expenses. To donate, go to https://tinyurl.com/ y5tjtcv7.
