Over 600 new cases reported Saturday

New coronaviru­s cases in Michigan were over 600 on Saturday, as numbers continued to trend downward, according to the state’s website.

There were 635 new cases and 63 new deaths due to the disease reported, making, in total, 579,919 cases and 15,359 deaths in Michigan since the start of the pandemic.

At least 57 of the 63 new confirmed deaths on Saturday were identified during a vital records review, which are conducted regularly by the state. These counts exclude probable cases and deaths linked to COVID-19 and include only confirmed cases and deaths.

Health officials have also been tracking results of statewide testing. So far, 10,145,067 diagnostic tests have been conducted.

As of Friday, a total of 529,080 Michigande­rs have recovered from COVID-19 (30 days out from onset of illness), a total which is updated by the state every Saturday.

According to Michigan’s website, 2,315,665 vaccines have been administer­ed as of Friday. Pfizer vaccines make up 1,140,165 of that total, while Moderna vaccines account for 1,175,500.

In Oakland County, 245,945 vaccines have been distribute­d, in Macomb County, 112,400 and in Wayne County, 96,375.

The state recently added a coronaviru­s vaccine section to its website, explaining the coronaviru­s vaccine and displaying a dashboard to give an overview on vaccine distributi­on in Michigan.

According to Johns Hopkins University, worldwide on Saturday, the number of global cases reached the milestone of over 110.9 million with deaths at over 2.4 million. In the United States, over 28 million cases have been reported with more than 497,000 deaths tied to the disease.

Michigan ranks as the ninth state in the U.S. with the most total number of deaths, with California as first. The state is also 14th in the nation in cases, Johns Hopkins says, with California as first.

Macomb County was first in the Detroit area on Saturday with the most new cases at 88, with new deaths at 6. This makes 54,436 cases and 1,847 deaths total in the county.

Wayne County was next with 54 new cases of the virus and 5 new deaths, totaling 63,636 cases and 2,056 deaths.

And, in Oakland County, there were 63,681 cases and 1,867 deaths, after 50 new cases and 12 new deaths were reported on Saturday.

The city of Detroit had the least amount of new cases at 33, with new deaths at 2, putting it at 29,651 total cases, as well as 1,844 total deaths.

In mid-Michigan, there were 4 new cases and no new deaths in Isabella County, creating 3,541 total cases and 72 total deaths in the county.
