Man charged in stabbing

-

A Royal Oak man, 70, is charged with felony assault after police say he used a pocket knife to stab an acquaintance outside the apartment complex where both men live.

Samuel Lee Bourne, Jr, is charged in Royal Oak 44th District Court with felonious assault with a dangerous weapon, a four-year felony. Bourne is free on personal bond.

Police were called to the complex in the 4400 block of Judson near Greenfield on Feb. 27.

Police said they found the other man, 52, had been stabbed in the back and suffered a non life-threatening injury.

The two men have known each other for awhile, but had a falling out after the suspect gave the younger man a ride to a marijuana dispensary on Eight Mile Road in Detroit, police said.

The victim told Bourne to drop him off and he’d take a bus home, police said. But the victim forgot his cell phone in the suspect’s car and contacted him to let him know.

Police said Bourne ran some errands and the victim was upset it took him so long to return to the apartment complex so he could get his phone back.

The victim argued with the suspect again later when he saw the older man outside taking out the trash, police said.

“The victim punched the suspect and the suspect pulled out his pocket knife and stabbed him,” said Royal Oak police Lt. Albert Carter.

Bourne has a criminal history that includes convictions for second-degree homicide in 1967, felony drug possession in 1998 and larceny.

He is scheduled to next appear in Royal Oak court at 10:15 a.m. March 12.
