A suspect in a double homicide/arson in Detroit was found dead at his home on Roanoke Lane in Rochester Hills Sunday morning, possibly the victim of suicide, according to the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office.

Shortly after 10 a.m., deputies, a crew from the Rochester Hills Fire Department and an employee from the sheriff’s forensic science lab responded to a call from the dead man’s father, who said he had gone to check on his 22-year-old son after he hadn’t heard from him for a few days. The father told authorities that his son had been distraught and possibly suicidal, the sheriff’s office said.

The man’s apartment door had been barricaded so the father broke in through a window where he discovered his son’s body, the sheriff’s office said.

The man had a gunshot wound, believed to be selfinflicted, the sheriff’s office said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

While executing a search warrant, authorities found a suicide note and recovered the firearm used in the potential suicide, the sheriff’s office said.

Undersheriff Mike McCabe told The Oakland Press that he didn’t know what double homicide/arson the man had been connected to, but according to the sheriff’s office it happened last fall.

MediaNews Group reached out to the Detroit Police Department for information but didn’t hear back by publication time.

An autopsy was scheduled, though the sheriff’s office said the investigation so far indicates suicide.
