Billy Frank Jones, of Traverse City, MI, formerly of Pontiac and Holly, died at Traverse City 3 March 2021 following complicati­ons from a surgical procedure. He was the son of Clyde Thomas and Maggie Belle (Grimes) Jones, born 3 July 1930 near the town of Hornbeak in Obion County, Tennessee. During WW2, his famheaded ily, by his mother, moved to Ponlived tiac for work and on Portland Street. While living in Pontiac, He attended McCarroll ElemenDuri­ng tary and Lincoln Jr. High Schools. the war, he worked as a Saginaw Street newspaper boy in downtown Pontiac. After WW2 he returned to Ten1951 nessee to live with his grandparen­ts and in was drafted into the USMC and served as a corpodisch­arge ral in the 8th Tank Battalion until his in 1953. After his USMC service he returned to Ponyears, eventually leaving the police department for the Pontiac Motor Division of General Motors where he worked in the foundry as a coremaker, retiring in 1986. After retirement from General Mo1994 tors, he resided at Rabun Gap, Georgia until is survived by his wife Gaynelle, children David (Patricia) Jones, Cheryl Jones, Tamara (Don) Claywith ton and stepson Mark (Denise) Gage, along several grandchild­ren, great grandchild­ren and his brother James (Carol) Jones. He was predecease­d by his sister Velma Kingsbury, brothers Carmen Jones, Raymond Jones and an infant brother and stepdaught­ers Terry Gage and April Justice. Billy was cremated and his cremains will be interred at a later date.
