Adams, Notre Dame Prep win regional cheer titles

Competitiv­e cheer

Rochester Adams collects regional title

The Rochester Adams cheer team won the Division 1 regional competitio­n at Troy Athens on Wednesday to advance to Friday’s state finals.

Adams scored a 790.26 total for first, while Plymouth (785.38), Stoney Creek (784.32) and Brownstown Woodhaven (776.68) also qualified.

Adams posted a 237.80 in the opening round, a 232.16 in the second round and a 320.30 in the third.

Stoney Creek had a 237.70 in the first round, a 230.92 in the second, and a 315.70 in the final round.

Troy Athens also competed in the regional and placed seventh with a 761.38 total.

The Division 1 state finals will take place on Friday at 3 p.m. from the Breslin Center in East Lansing.

LAKE ORION ADVANCES

The Lake Orion competitiv­e cheer team finished third in the D1 regional at Howell to advance to Friday’s cheer state finals.

The Dragons scored a 779.94 total in a very competitiv­e meet. Brighton won with a 783.80 total, while Grandville narrowly took second with 780.56. Grand Blanc was the final qualifier with 777.98.

The Dragons scored a 233.60 in the first round, a 229.64 in the second round, and a 316.70 in the final round.

WL WESTERN MOVING ON

The Walled Lake Western cheer team placed second in the D2 regional at Western on Tuesday night, advancing to Saturday’s state finals.

Western scored a 788.48 total to place runner-up, while Allen Park won the meet with a 793.62 total. Flint Kearsley (756.66) and Southgate Anderson (756.26) also qualified for the finals.

WL Western posted a 236.80 in round one, a 230.48 in round two, and a 321.20 in the final round.

South Lyon East (729.54) placed seventh in the meet, while Auburn

Hills Avondale (716.54) placed 10th.

The Division 2 state finals take place on Saturday at 10 a.m. from the Breslin Center.

Notre Dame Prep wins D3 regional

The Notre Dame Prep cheer team won a Division 3 regional title at Novi on Tuesday night, scoring a 764.02 to narrowly edge Croswell-Lexington, which posted a 764.00.

Flat Rock (762.22) and Richmond (759.94) also qualified for the state finals, which take place on Friday at 10 a.m. from the Breslin Center.

Notre Dame scored a 230.40 in the opening round, a 221.02 in the second round, and a 312.60 in the final round.

Girls basketball

ADAMS 42, LAKE ORION 33

The Rochester Adams girls basketball team defeated Lake Orion in a district semifinal on Wednesday at Romeo High School, 42-33.

Lauren Petersmark had 12 points to lead Adams, while Madison Kesman scored 11.

Katie Van Heck had nine points and six rebounds to lead the Dragons (11-8) while Maddie Ebbert had six points, three steals and three assists.

Adams will face Clarkston in the district final at Romeo on Friday at 6 p.m.

CLARKSTON 62, KETTERING 51

The Clarkston girls basketball team got past Waterford Kettering in a D1 district semifinal on Wednesday, 62-51.

Morgan Hunter had 10 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Wolves while Kaelyn Kaul had 13 points with five rebounds.

WL NORTHERN 39, MILFORD 31

Walled Lake Northern defeated Milford in a district semifinal at home on Wednesday.

The Knights were led by Andie Wolfe, who had 15 points. Kelly Hickey added 10 points.

LAKELAND 30, WL CENTRAL 13

The Lakeland girls basketball team advanced to Friday’s district final with a 30-13 win over Walled Lake Central.

Jenna Baer and Molly Libby each scored eight points to lead the Eagles in the victory.

Lakeland will face Walled Lake Northern in the district final at Northern on Friday.

BERKLEY 49, SEAHOLM 40

The Berkley girls basketball team advanced to the Division 1 district finals on Wednesday by besting Seaholm 49-40.

Shay Manchester had three points to lead the Maples, while Emily Jacoby had eight points and 11 rebounds.

MARIAN 73, AVONDALE 21

The Birmingham Marian girls basketball team defeated Auburn Hills Avondale 73-21 in a district semifinal on Wednesday.

Shannon Kennedy had 19 points to lead the Mustangs while Mckenzie Swanson had 11 points.

Marian will face Waterford Mott in a district final on Friday.
