Kosmo’s predictions for Week 9

-

One last weekend of prep football before the postseason begins.

This will be the swan sang for most of the teams around the state, but all still have plenty of motivation.

Often times you see the bestplayed games this week.

Whether it’s a team jockeying for playoff position, or a team just wanting to go into the offseason with positive momentum, Week 9 usually brings out the emotion.

That made the picks a little tougher for Kosmo, but like the players, Kosmo gave his all this week.

FRIDAY

Troy at Bloomfield Hills:

It’s all up for grabs in the OAA Blue. The Colts and Black Hawks have managed to go unbeaten heading into this big clash. The Colts have really had to scratch and claw in recent weeks. That could help them on Friday, in what should be a competitive game. Bloomfield Hills has been rolling since Week 1. Will they hesitate if they find themselves in a tight game in the fourth? That will be the big question.

Kosmo Says: Bloomfield Hills Milford at Lakeland: Milford has surpassed a lot of history in the 2021 season. The Mavs can cross another big mark off their list if they can beat Lakeland for the first time since 2012. The Eagles have been very tough at home, but have dropped three of their last four. Milford has to know this is their chance to strike.

Kosmo Says: Milford

South Lyon East at South Lyon:

You can never overlook a rival, and South Lyon likely won’t. The Lions know that a perfect season is on the line and wouldn’t let the Cougars take that from them at home.

Kosmo Says: South Lyon

Detroit Country Day at Birmingham Brother Rice: The Yellowjackets are certainly a strong team, but it’s another tough jump up against a bigger opponent. Brother Rice has a gut-check game this weekend after a rough showing last week. Kosmo Says: Brother Rice Clarkston at Oak Park: It’s another tough game for Oak Park, but that’s nothing new.

The Knights have played a really tough schedule, as has Clarkston. The Wolves have been running past most of their competition this season and Kosmo thinks the Knights will have trouble slowing them down. Kosmo Says: Clarkston

Ortonville Brandon at Holly:

It’s been since 2012 that Holly has been able to celebrate a win over their nearby rival. The Blackhawks are hurting right now, having dropped three straight, but they still can score points in bunches. It’s going to be tough for the Bronchos to keep up.

Kosmo Says: Brandon

Stoney Creek at Birmingham Seaholm:

Both teams are looking to cap the season with some positive momentum. Stoney Creek’s time in the OAA Red should help the Cougars find a way to win on the road.

Kosmo Says: Stoney Creek

Walled Lake Western at Walled Lake Central:

The Warriors have started playing to their preseason potential and that spells more bad news for the winless Vikings.

Kosmo Says: Walled Lake Western

Troy Athens at Auburn Hills Avondale: Athens got back on track last week with a nice win and should be able to finish out the regular season on a high note.

Kosmo Says: Troy Athens Berkley at Pontiac: The Bears suffered another tough loss last

week, but that should just motivate them to come back stronger this week.

Kosmo Says: Berkley

Ferndale at Farmington:

Farmington has finally started to put things together late in the season. The Falcons have won their

last three and Kosmo sees a fourth consecutive win this weekend.

Kosmo Says: Farmington Rochester Adams at Detroit Renaissance: The Highlanders have come to far to not finish off a perfect regular season. It’s been 16 years since it last happened. Kosmo Says: Adams

West Bloomfield at Utica Eisenhower: The Lakers are playing their best at the right time and Eisenhower is about to see just how good West Bloomfield can be. Kosmo Says: West Bloomfield

Chippewa Valley at Oxford:

Oxford and Chip Valley are similar in results. Both teams have played against the best and their losses are by the narrowest of margins. Oxford may be the underdog in this one, but don’t count

the Wildcats out too quickly. Kosmo Says: Oxford

Lake Orion at Saline: A win over unbeaten Saline would be a huge boost for Lake Orion, but it’s going to be a very uphill climb. The Hornets are rolling right now, with no slowing down in sight. Kosmo Says: Saline

SATURDAY

Waterford Mott at Waterford

Kettering: The Captains have won the last two in this heated rivalry, and that has to be eating at the Corsairs. Kettering has been working with an inexperienced roster all season, but you can bet it will throw all it has at Mott. The Corsairs can’t afford mental mistakes in this one.

Kosmo Says: Mott Clarkston Everest Collegiate vs. Madison Heights

Bishop Foley (at Ford Field):

It’s a great matchup for a CHSL championship. Both teams can play with a lot of speed and tempo in this setting. The difference to Kosmo is that Everest has been in this position plenty in recent years. This is new territory for the Ventures. That could play the biggest factor down the stretch. Kosmo Says: Everest Collegiate.
