‘Let’s Go Brandon’ rally Saturday in Brandon Twp.

- By Aileen Wingblad

Supporters of the “America First” policy agenda of the Trump Administration will gather Saturday in Brandon Township for a “Let’s Go Brandon” rally and festival, scheduled to run from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.

Considered by some as a phrase-turned-movement in protest of the Biden Administration, “Let’s Go Brandon” emerged from a NASCAR race at Talladega Speedway on Oct. 2 when an NBC reporter purportedly misinterpreted a crowd chant of “F*** Joe Biden” during a televised interview of driver Brandon Brown.

Saturday’s event, presented by the Michigan Conservative Coalition, will feature former Indy driver Ricky Bobby Treadway, live entertainment by The Headnodics, food trucks, “Let’s Go Brandon” merchandise and more. It will be held at Crossman Park, located at 437 Mill Street in Ortonville.

In a news release, Rosanne Ponkowski, MCC president, cited polling that “shows the vast majority of Americans understand that their country is going in the wrong direction.”

The Let’s Go Brandon phrase is a “popular way to politely communicate that Americans are fed up with Washington, D.C.,” she stated.

Those who come to the festival — to be held regardless of weather conditions — are asked to bring American flags and handmade signs “in good taste.” The Trump Unity Bridge float is expected to participate, according to the news release.

Marian Sheridan, Michigan Republican Party member, said the rally is a way to energize American First supporters ahead of the 2022 election.

“Let’s Go Brandon rallies like this one are symbolic of the discontent about the many political failures that are on full display,” she stated in the news release.
