The much-anticipated improvements to Pontiac’s Golf Drive and Bagley Street are scheduled to start May 1. Drivers will see some traffic shifts as crews prepares areas for work before that time. This project is getting $3.2 million in federal funding under the Infrastructure Act.

Drivers can expect temporary closures before construction as crews remove trees and adjust utilities along the route.

Golf Drive will be repaved between Old Telegraph Road and Bagley Street and includes a 5-foot shoulder on both sides of the road, new pavement markings and new signs. Drainage will be improved and a sidewalk installed between Old Telegraph Road and Canterbury Drive.

Bagley Street between Golf Drive and Orchard Lake Road will be repaved with an 8-foot paved path on the road’s west side, between Golf Drive and the Clinton River Trailhead. This project includes a new traffic signal at the Golf-Bagley intersection, new sanitary sewers, curb repairs and sidewalk improvements at intersections to meet Americans with Disabilities Act standards.

Drivers will also experience lane reductions on Golf during the work. Bagley will be closed during the project.

The detour for drivers is Old Telegraph Road to Orchard Lake Road to Woodward Avenue to South Boulevard.

Residents and business owners will still be able to reach their properties, but at times the work could disrupt driveway access. City officials said people would be notified before any disruptions.

The city hired Hubbell, Roth & Clark, Inc., to monitor the project.
