t’s like we’re trapped in a snow globe whose owner hasn’t stopped shaking it since March.

This moment in San Antonio’s history isn’t just uncertain. It’s wiped out our sense of certainty.

So this is the perfect time to launch San Antonio Inc.

Featuring San Antonio’s best business writers, our newsweekly will be a resource for everyone who cares about what’s ahead for the city’s business scene, workforce and overall economy. We’ll examine how companies are adapting to the turmoil, why some are thriving, and which industries will come out of this recession stronger and which will be weaker.

We won’t sugarcoat the threats to our livelihoods and quality of life. We’ll rigorously report and analyze what’s working for both businesses and employees.

Understatement ahead: There’s a lot of ground to cover.

Starting 3 ½ months ago, we swung from historically low unemployment rates to more than 10,000 cars and trucks lined up for free food at a San Antonio Food Bank distribution at Traders Village. Soon after that, businesses of all stripes lined up for government bailouts.

Conventions fled the city, and hotels and restaurants either closed or limited operations, furloughing and laying off thousands of workers — many of whom were barely making it in their full-time jobs. Elective surgeries were banned statewide.
