German grocer Lidl selling locations in S.A. it bought three years ago

Bad news for local Lidl fans: The German grocery chain is selling most of its San Antonio properties.

For-sale signs have been posted on land Lidl owns on Culebra near Westover Hills Boulevard on the West Side, at Seguin Road and Wood Glen on the Northeast

Side and along Kitty Hawk Road in Universal City.

The locations, acreage noted on the signs and online listings for the properties match three parcels the company bought in 2017.

It’s unclear what Lidl’s plans are for another piece of land it owns at Alamo Ranch and Lone Star parkways on the West Side.

Commercial real estate firm

CBRE announced in 2017 that the grocer would anchor a retail project spearheade­d by Abiso Developmen­t at that intersecti­on. Abiso planned to build a shopping center next to Lidl and another multitenan­t building.

Constructi­on of a multitenan­t building is finished and space made available to tenants in the coming weeks, said Andrew Bagnall of Abiso Real Estate.

Jersey Mike’s Subs, Great Clips and Lin’s Express are among the tenants. The project is called the Grove at Alamo Ranch.

“We have no comment in regards to the land that Lidl owns,” Bagnall said.

A spokespers­on for CBRE said the commercial real estate firm cannot comment on the topic. A Lidl spokespers­on did not address questions about property sales or plans for stores in the area.
