The A-List
OUR PICKS FOR WHAT TO SEE AND DO THIS WEEK
1. Concert
Texas Folklife’s annual Accordion Kings & Queens concert traditionally presents an array of styles, from conjunto to Cajun. This year’s event will be a virtual concert by zydeco master C.J. Chenier & the Red Hot Louisiana Band.
7 p.m. Friday, milleroutdoor theatre.com. Free.
2. Book & author
Brit Bennett will discuss her bestselling novel “The Vanishing Half” in a virtual chat with author Jason Reynolds. The book explores the lives of twin Black sisters, one of whom passes for white as an adult. It’s part of the San Antonio Book Festival’s Get Lit series in partnership with Nowhere Bookshop.
5 p.m. Thursday, pay what you want up to $10 via sabookfestival. org to receive a link to the event.
3. Movie
What do you get when you cross “Predator’ with “Enter the Dragon”? Another enjoyably crazy Nicholas Cage movie. “Jiu Jitsu” is about an alien who comes to Earth every six years to fight the planet’s jiujitsu masters.
Opens Friday.
4. Streaming
Those cute lil critters Yakko, Wakko and Dot will be creating chaos again when “Animaniacs,” Steven Spielberg’smadcap, musical tribute to classic cartoons, returns after a more than two-decade absence. Pinky and the Brain are back, too. Premieres Friday on Hulu.
5. Album
Judging by its song titles like “Dive Bar” and “Party Gras,” country superstar Garth Brooks’ new album is indeed “Fun,” just like the title says. The album also includes Brooks’ cover of “Shallow” from “A Star Is Born” with his wife, Tricia Yearwood. Available Friday.
6. TV
The true crime story of the season may well be “Murder on Middle Beach.” It’s a documentary miniseries by first-time director Madison Hamburg, who digs into the unsolved murder of his mother a decade ago in their upscale Connecticut neighborhood.
Premieres at 9 p.m. today on HBO.
7. Stage
Magik Theatre is returning to performing for live audiences with playwright Greg Banks’ “SnowWhite,” in which actors Rosa Gardner and Bobby Tschoepe play all the parts, including all seven dwarves. Saturday through Dec. 24, Magik Theatre, 420 S. Alamo St. $15$20, magiktheatre.org, 210-2272751. See website for times and dates.
