Feeling anxious? Wellness expert SarahWilson wrote the book on that, “First, We Make the Beast Beautiful.” If you’re looking for a way forward in the new year, her latest, “This OneWild and Precious Life” (Dey Street Books, $26.99), may be of help. She advises walking more, buying less and pursuing the arts. It couldn’t hurt.
On sale Tuesday.
3. Comedy
A working mom who started doing stand-up when she was almost 40, Vicki Barbolak honed her chops at L.A.’s famed Comedy Store and made a big impact on “America’s Got Talent” in
2018. She also has written for and opened for the equally brash Roseanne Barr. Her appearance in San Antonio includes a New Year’s Eve countdown show at 10 p.m. Thursday.

4. New Year’s Eve
Celebrate S.A., the city’s big New Year’s Eve celebration, is coming to your house this year, with a broadcast featuring cover band Mélange, food and drink segments and a big fireworks finale. And don’t touch that dial. “NBC’s New Year’s Eve,” before and after the local show, has the best entertainment lineup of any of the network celebrations, including Chloe x Halle, Pentatonix and Bebe Rexha featuring Doja Cat.
Celebrate S.A. 10:30 p.m.; “NBC’s New Year’s Eve” 9 p.m. Thursday and 12:35 a.m. Friday, WOAI-TV.
5. Streaming
The streaming service Crackle rings in the new year with a new series, “Insomnia.” It’s a sci-fi thriller about a deadly game that might appeal to fans of movies like “The Hunt” and “The Running Man.” Twenty strangers are injected with a poison that will kill them if they sleep; only the last one standing gets the antidote. Season one debuts Friday on Crackle.
