OUR PICKS FOR WHAT TO SEE AND DO THIS WEEK

- By Jim Kiest and Deborah Martin STAFF WRITERS

1. TV

Javicia Leslie takes over the role of “Batwoman” in the series’ season two premiere. She plays a homeless woman who finds the Batsuit once worn by Kate Kane (Ruby Rose, who has left the show). She may have to fight Bruce Wayne to keep it.

7 p.m. today, The CW.

2. Movie

“Our Friend” is adapted from Matthew Teague’s first-person account for Esquire magazine of his wife’s terminal illness and the friend who showed up to help out and stayed. It has such as strong cast — Casey Affleck, Dakota Johnson, Jason Segel and that girl from the Allstate commercial — and such a sad premise, but it will be funny and deeply moving, too, if it’s true to its source.

In theaters Friday.

3. Home video

Luca Marinelli won the best actor prize at the Venice Film Festival for playing the title role, a poor sailor who aspires to be a writer, in “Martin Eden.” The movie, based on a novel by Jack London, landed on several critics’ 2020 Top 10 lists.

Blu-ray and DVD on sale Tuesday.

4. Book

“The Mission” ($29.99, Custom House) is a history of NASA’s efforts to send a deep-space probe to survey Jupiter’s moon Europa, which might be home to something alive. It’s science journalism that has all the ingredients of a Saturday morning matinee, with a motley cast of characters trying to figure out how to slip a space robot through the planet’s deadly radiation belts.

On sale Tuesday.

5. Dance

Arte y Pasión will stream “Grito de los Árboles” (“Scream of the Trees”), a flamenco piece exploring ways that mankind has adapted in order to survive in times of crisis. The dancers include company founder Tamara Adira. The piece will feature spoken word from Andrea “Vocab” Sanderson, San Antonio’s poet laureate. The performance is part of DreamWeek.

7 p.m. Saturday. $10, arte-ypasion.com; ticket buyers will be sent a link to the performance.
