New Thai food truck opens on North Side
After working at a local Thai restaurant for four years, Pear Chaisittisinsuk decided to take a leap of faith and open up her own food truck, Aroy Ver. Chaisittisinsuk, 27, said she’s incorporating her Thailand roots into the business on wheels, cooking up items on her menu that she grew up eating and enjoying.
“The Thai style grilled pork (Moo Ping) is something I used to eat every morning before heading into my high school,” Chaisittisinsuk, who’s lived in San Antonio for the past five years, said. “Making it now for others just brings me back.”
Aroy Ver opened recently in the Shell parking lot at 6576 Babcock Road, near De Zavala Road — an area Chaisittisinsuk says she loves due to the lack of traffic.
Before she opened the food truck, Chaisittisinsuk said she worked at Thai Taste on 5520 Evers Road. Chaisittisinsuk said she knew launching a business would be risky during the coronavirus pandemic, but added it’s something she’s always wanted to do.
Customers can expect street Thai food, like fried rice, sweet pork, grilled pork, grilled beef, beef massaman curry and pad woonsen on the menu. Aroy
Ver also serves Thai Tea, shrimp cracking chips, Aroy’s rolls, Spin Spin Tato (a spiralized potato skewered, fried and seasoned) and chicken satay.
Chaisittisinsuk said her Thai style omelet (Khao Khai Jiao) is something unique on her menu, as she says most restaurants don’t have it. The omelet is topped with cilantro, served with jasmine rice, Thai Sriracha sauce and sliced cucumbers.
